Vectra Impressive

August 5th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive

On the road the front-wheel drive Opel Vectra is very impressive, delivering a high-level of sophistication and refinement — a safe haven if you like — but without totally seceding from its bread-and-butter, mid-sized roots

The more opulent, more expensive CDX is basically a dead ringer for the CD in most key areas, save for the 3.2-litre ECOTEC V6 powerplant (which is only available in automatic) and extra interior touches: six-stack CD player, velour trim, trip computer and four-spoke steering wheel

The first thing that took my fancy on the CD was the capacious rear-end. There was more than enough room to accommodate my two-child family — and I’m talking young nippers, so that’s a lot of accessories Its 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine is claimed to produce 108kW of power at 5600rpm and 203Nm of torque at 4000rpm — in comparison, the 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine in the Mazda 6 produces 122kW and 207Nm. The engine output only equates to a small gain on its predecessor, but it is certainly honest enough for my conservative family-friendly needs.

The automatic gearbox in both Vectras felt very refined, allowing the CD for one to lope along at 2500rpm at 115km/h. That helped to produce fuel economy of 7.99lt/100km, which equates to around 750km out of the 61-litre tank..

Power windows and mirrors, finger-touch steering column controls, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, nine-speaker CD stereo, cruise control, tilt and reach adjustable steering wheel, variable intermittent wipers and air-conditioning are all part of the package As you’d expect from something that is zeroing in on the likes of the BMW 3-Series, all the driver inputs are silky smooth, without delving into the realms of super-responsive. That holds for the likes of the steering, & controls — the gear shifter will have to wait until I’ve driven the manual.

Its Pretty Impressive The Honda Civit GLi

August 5th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Mobile

If you were to sketch an average, nice, neat, modern small sedan, chances are it would finish up looking not unlike a Used Honda Civic GLi. While in no way exciting, let alone compellingly attractive, the GLi’s surface is well executed and hard to fault, thanks to the clean-cut contours and balanced proportions.

At first glance, the four-door Civic’s specifications and inclusions are pretty impressive, too. But in some respects, the realities of the GLi fall slightly short of the promise.

Working away fairly smoothly and discreetly, the GLi’s engine is a bit of a conundrum. Less specified than the five-door Civic Vi’s same-capacity VTEC-valved version, the sedan’s engine is the smallest here Being a Honda, it certainly doesn’t mind a good rev, of course, and its tacho needle can continue rising after the other engines have hit their hobbles.

Trying for good acceleration in the uppermost ratios requires a long, level road and stoic patience. But to its credit, the engine is easy on the juice, even when pedalled heavily.

Since the suspension has a soft-ish bias, the ride is at its most absorbent around town and for highway cruising. But the Honda feels rather rolly through corners and becomes a bit bouncy over rough roads’ heaves and undulations. The brakes perform very well and could rate as the best here if not for the slightly spongy and lifeless pedal.

Civic’s interior makes a good first impression as the furnishings are tasteful, the atmosphere airy, the instruments are as classy as Protege’s and the controls are as good as it getsThe front seats further demote the GLi’s ranking because, while the backrest affords good wrap-around support, the flat cushion is one you perch on rather than sit in.

The situation’s no better in the back because, despite Civic having the longest wheelbase here, rear passengers’ legroom is only average and foot space is slightly pinched.

Moreover, while the bench’s padding is reasonably soft and shapely, the fairly short and low cushion means under-thigh support is found wanting. And, in the final analysis, so is the GLi’s overall score. Search Second Hand Opel Car Sales Wexford for a car that suits your needs

The Five Series BmW

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive

One of the technological highlights of the, Active Steering, is standard equipment on all BMW 5 series including the entry level 525i.Though the system incorporates Servotronic, this is substantially more than just speed-sensitive power steering. Not only does the system deliver variable steering ratio but it also incorporates its own yaw sensors and computer control to intervene if the car becomes unstable.

Front passengers have never been short of room in the 5. Rear knee room is substantially improved, not least because BMW has heavily scalloped the back of the front seats.. This is a BMW! A centre ‘big screen’ takes care of iDrive-related duties (climate, audio and navigation and television is fitted) while the driver’s binnacle is dominated by dual main gauges.

Big and easy at first glance, these are flanked by fuel level and economy sub-dials. Behind the speedo there is the cruise control telltale. Onboard computer functions appear on the dash as do a host of warning lights/systems.

The steering wheel, with cruise and audio controls, is height and reach adjustable — as you’d expect. The cornering potential of the Dynamic Drive equipped 530i soon found out the limitations of the standard leather-clad seats, however. They’re comfortable and provide lots of electrically-actuated adjustment but lack lateral support. The 525i makes do with front seats that adjust electrically for height and backrest angle.

. You’ll be hard-pressed to fit a wallet in the double-decker centre console and the door pockets are small and hard to access.

On the passive front there are ten airbags which are deployed faster thanks to smarter crash sensing electronics. Seat belt pretensioners and active head rests for front seat occupants are all standard equipment.

Both the 530i and 545i get 17-inch alloy wheels (the 525 gets 16s) and run flat tyres are also standard fitment though a space saver spare is supplied.

Run flats offer an extra degree of security on the open road, but you pay for the convenience and safety. Run flat on the tyres and they almost always end up as throwaways. Find Used Renault Cars Mayo.ie to select the vehicle of your choice.

The Mazda 2 Engineering Perfection

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive

Somewhere in the mid-1990s, Mazda lost its way. Previously it had garnered a reputation for building exciting, stylish, quality cars delivering some of the finest automotive hardware to come out of Japan.

The funky bubble 121 became the staid Metro 121, the swoopy Astina hatch reverted to a run of the mill-styling formula, the 626 lost its V6 power and by the end of the decade, the twin-turbo rotary RX-7 was no more. About the only model left in the line-up to engender any excitement was the superb MX-5.

At the upper end are the European products like the Peugeot 206, Citroen C3, Renault Clio and VW Polo, which form a premium light sectorWith such a split, what you are getting in the premium end of the light-car market are well-equipped, refined and great little cars to that belie their size. It might not exactly be cheap and cheerful, but the segment does generally provide better value, safer and far more fun in your little urban runabout.

Under the hood is a 16-valve 1.5-litre motor that generates a maximum power of 82kW and peak torque of 141Nm – a substantial jncrease on the 121′s 1.5 that produced only sixtyfourkW and 128Nm.

What really impresses is the steering, which while still being light enough for easy urban manoeuvrability, provides a turn-in and follow through that is sharp and direct. Push the 2 into a corner with enthusiasm and it confidently follows your desired line with plenty of grip, minimal body roll and almost sporty dynamic control.

Getting comfy in the driver’s seat is easy with a height-adjustable base and tilt-adjustable steering column. Overall, the 2 is significantly larger in all directions than the 121 it replaces, and there is plenty of room up front for occupants and lots of decent-sized practical cubbies for bits and pieces.

Rear passengers benefit from plenty of headroom, and because the rear base is raised, enough legroom for a comfortable cross-city ride. There are three rear lap/sash belts, but it would be a big squeeze for three adults. The boot is a good size, and expandable with an easy-to-use fifty fifty split-fold rear seat back. New Camry Range

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive

Toyota has held the number one position five times in the last ten years, losing it to Holden in 2001, and looking set to do so again in 2002.

The bottom line is that it costs more to get into a generation Camry, which goes on sale September 16, 2002. It is true that some models are cheaper than before, but the Camry range starts higher than it did previously, for the four cylinder Altise.

Toyota’s not shy about talking up the advancements, changes and improvements in the new Camry, and we’ve detailed that extensively. Right now, we’re going to take a look at the range.

CAMRY – THE RANGE: Forget CSi and CSX. Forget Conquest and Vienta. Fifth generation Camry comes in three basic grades, from cheapest to most expensive : Altise, Ateva and Azura.

Toyota’s fifth generation Camry is the first locally built Camry without a estate, and likely to stay that way. Demand for the load lugger, wasn’t strong enough to warrant the extra cost in developing a new one says Toyota.

So, three grades spanning one body, two engines (four cylinder and V6) and two transmissions. Then there’s the Sportivo models, one four and one V6, which carry the aspirations of Toyota’s new range.

Altise, which replaces the old CSi, is the cheapest seat in the range. Buyers will shop the Altise against Opel Vectra GL and Mazda 6, and may stretch to the more expensive Liberty GX. V6 model sneaks into Mitsubishi Magna Exec, Ford Falcon XT price territory.

What it’s got: Safety equipment includes dual front airbags and four wheel disc brakes. Features include power windows and mirrors, remote central locking, in dash CD player and air conditioning. V6 model adds anti lock brakes.

The ATEVA Replaces both the CSX and Conquest models as the middle man in the new range. Four cylinder version faces competition from both Vectra CD, Mazda 6 and Liberty GX.

What it’s got: Everything the Altise has. Safety gains include rear headrests and anti lock brakes. Feature improvements include 15 inch alloy wheels, trip computer, cruise control, metallic paint and security alarm with immobilizer. V6 adds side airbags, 6-disc CD player and chrome cabin highlights.

THE CAMRY SPORTIVO:

Toyota’s attempt at a sporting Camry, replaces the Touring model of old. Buyers will shop it against mid-spec Mazda 6, Liberty RX.

What it’s got: Starts with Altise safety and adds anti lock brakes. Features fare a bit better, adding to Altise’s base with cruise control, sports seats, leather steering wheel, 16 inch alloy wheels and leather and chrome highlights.

THE AZURA:

What it is: The luxury pinnacle of the Camry range, the Azura carries over from the previous generation, where it replaced the Vienta name.

What it’s got: Safety doesn’t add to Sportivo specification. Features builds on Sportivo with satellite navigation, leather seats, leather and wood grain inserts in door and console, sunroof and power front seats.

Popular Auto GPS Features And How They Affect You

August 3rd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in GPS

If you’re in the market for an auto GPS unit you may feel like you’re in over your head. There are some many options it’s hard to keep track. If you research the features available you can determine which ones appeal to you. Then you will be ready to make your purchase with confidence.

Screen size is a big deal to many auto GPS buyers for a number of reasons. With a larger screen you can see more of the map, giving you a better idea of your exact location. Since GPS units employ a touchscreen, having a larger screen can cut down on problems while navigating menus. Some people with poor eyesight will have less trouble with a larger screen, also.

Another popular feature for many GPS units is spoken street names. While most units give spoken directions on upcoming turns, not all of them have spoken street names. If you are in unfamiliar surroundings spoken street names can make navigation simpler. This allows you to look for specific street signs to verify that you are on the right track.

Your auto GPS will come with a set of default maps which will be pertinent to your region. However, many GPS units have an optional map update feature. The world is changing everyday, and roads come and go. New highways and bypasses are being built all the time, so being able to download an updated map will keep you up to date. If you are not able to update your maps you may end up driving in circles trying to find a road that isn’t there.

Arguably the most popular feature, routing options are a hotly contested topic among certain circles. The two main choices are fastest route or shortest route, and there are merits to each. The fastest route is great for saving you time, but it may take you miles out of your way and cost you more in gas money. Meanwhile the shortest route is sure to save you mileage and gas, but it can also be a slow and tedious drive. Depending on the driver and their destination, both options have definite value.

Another options that is gaining popularity is the live traffic updates. While this option normally requires you to have a traffic receiver and pay a monthly subscription, if you have much of a daily commute it could more than pay for itself. The GPS uses the information from these updates to automatically route you around slower traffic or accidents. This allows you to reach your destination quicker, and over time that’s just what you’ll save… Time.

One of the most original uses for a GPS is the POI (points of interest) feature. There are databases loaded with all sorts of locations, such as hotels and restaurants. That’s not all, though. With the right POI data you can also see famous landmarks, school zones, speed traps and more. This option is great for the driver that wants to do some sightseeing during their travels.

If you arm yourself with this knowledge, it will make the decision process easier. Knowing which features you want and which ones you don’t will save you time and hassle when weighing your options. When you determine the features that are important to you, you will be able to make the right decision about which auto GPS to purchase.

Range Rover Evoque Is Out There

August 2nd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive

n the evening of first of July, Land Rover released the new Range Rover model from its range. It’s about Evoque model, a premium compact SUV with an outstanding personality and dynamic design. Land Rover LRX concept finally became series car model. The new model’s name, launched by British brands is called Evoque, in the production version. The new Range Rover Evoque becomes one of the most dynamic and interesting appearances of self landscape of 2010, and its great advantage is that it has kept many of LRX lines, the concept which Evoque was born from. Range Rover is launching as a fighter against as the group Q5-X3-XC60-GLK, with a model that really draws and has all chances to become a hit on the premium compact SUV market.

Land Rover needed the new Evoque for the British manufacturer of large field patterns to have a strong foothold in search of something more environmentally friendly lines. Especially known for their appetite for fuel consumption, models signed by the Range Rover have a younger brother who manages to maintain the balance that went into the red zone. Thus, the 2×4 version of Evoque will issue under 130 grams CO 2 / km, the British model beeing the first manufacturer in the history of Albion which manages this kind of performance.

Evoque is the smallest, most environmentally friendly and has the smallest weight of all Land Rover models created until now and it is released today on the market, not surprisingly at all, exactly in the same year when British brand reaches 40 years of existence.

The name of the new model which enteres in Range Rover field has been chosen to represent a well known label to all world markets and to reach sensitive stringsof the prospective customers. “It was important the new model to have a name which can be recognized anywhere in the world and to overcome linguistic and cultural borders of states. We want to create an innovative, new and different name. An exclusive item name which involves and calls the emotion. Evoque is cosmopolitan and multi-continental, sophisticated and has a perfectly match with urban elegance of the car”, said Phil Popham, Land Rover’s director.

The Evoque version will be available both with front-wheel drive and with four-wheel drive, the manufacturer promising off-road features that beat all the segments. Unfortunately for those expecting more details from the Land Rover, the British have been very stingy to this chapter, confining to announce that the new model will be presented for the first time in front of an audience at the Paris Motor Show, which will be introduced to us this fall. The new Evoque Range Rover comes on the world markets next summer.

In the summer of 2011, 160 countries around the world will get acquainted with the new Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. In Halewood, 1,000 new jobs were created at the plant near Liverpool, who will take the British model. The New Range Rover Evoque is a three door model. Subsequently, British manufacturer will launch a version with five doors.
