You Don’t Have To Struggle To Learn Spanish Language

July 18th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Language

Picking up a new language is not as difficult as you might think. The truth is, you can have a great time learning a new language! Focus on the opportunities that speaking another language can bring. When you travel, it can make you much more at ease. It’s also very likely that you’ll be able to communicate more easily with many residents of the city or town where you live. If you know two or more languages, you are also qualified for many more jobs. For people who live in the U.S., the language that is spreading most quickly is Spanish.

Today Spanish is spoken almost as much as English and there are quite a few people who do not know English at all. For this reason, being able to understand Spanish is becoming an important skill.

Place some kind of note or label on various items, with the Spanish word for it. This can be helpful to do wherever you can, whether in the rooms of your house or your workplace. This way you will get used to associating the correct words with the correct items. If you start to form a good vocabulary in the new language, you’ll reduce the risk of making socially awkward errors. Beginners often unwittingly say things that are unintentionally funny or even offensive to native speakers. The reason this method of tagging works is that your mind immediately begins to think using the new language rather than your native one whenever you look at the labeled items.

You will learn faster if you can watch Spanish language TV or movies. This is easy because there are plenty of Spanish TV broadcasts, and most movie rental stores keep a foreign language section. Doing this helps you to learn the proper pronunciation of Spanish. Your learning will accelerate if you don’t have the ability to speak with an authentic Spanish speaker. To begin, you can watch with subtitles. Then, as you learn to identify parts of speech and words, you can turn off the subtitles and see how much you understand. Your learning will go much faster by using this method.

Learning a new language, whether it is Spanish or something else, does not have to be excruciatingly difficult. Just starting out is the toughest part, but it will get much better in time. Just keep working at it and trying new tips and tricks to help yourself and before long you’ll be fluent!

Spanish is a Romance language, in other words it derives directly from Latin and for anyone with a minimum knowledge of French or Italian it will look pretty familiar. This does not mean however that Spanish is a difficult language to learn even if you have no previous knowledge of any of these languages. In the USA it is easy to pick-up a Spanish language radio station so that anyone can get familiar with the sound of the language and practice whatever they are learning in their Spanish course.

This is an excellent reason why you should be learning Spanish if you are thinking of going to Latin America or Spain for your holidays. The same goes of course if you are having business dealings with these countries.

The question usually asked by anxious learners of a foreign language is: how difficult is that language to learn? Well, as far as Spanish goes, the answer is not difficult at all. Why is that? One reason is its spelling and pronunciation. Words are spelt exactly the way they are pronounced and for each letter there is only one sound. What a relief for English speakers! And they will also be happy to note how many Spanish words are close to their English equivalent.

Getting Kids To Learn Spanish

February 5th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Education

The best time to learn any foreign language is while one is still young. This is why it’s always best to teach a child how to speak a second language like Spanish as soon as practicable. Knowing how to speak Spanish at an early age will serve a child well for the rest of his or her life. Of course, you could just wait until your child is offered an introductory course in Spanish at school, but the big disadvantage to this approach is that most kids aren’t given a chance to learn any foreign language, let alone Spanish, until they get to high school. But you don’t have to wait that long; you can start teaching your child Spanish right now if you desire.

Studies have shown that teaching children how to speak a foreign language at an early age improves their overall ability to learn so that they excel at school and perform better on standardized tests. Indeed, high school students who took a second language have tended to do better on their SAT exams than did those who never took a second language.

There are many languages to choose from. However, Spanish is among the easiest and it can provide a background against which your child can later learn other languages.

A person with knowledge of Spanish and English will get ample business opportunities. Spanish is becoming a widely spoken language even in the United States and will definitely change your child’s vision of the world around him.

Providing the opportunity for your child to learn this language may probably be the best gift you give him, since we have to remember that children are now becoming global citizens rather than just citizens of the United States.

It’s only Americans who generally know one language or maybe two. Traveling around Europe opens your eyes to realize that other cultures are often fluent in several languages. Children these days need to be given that opportunity.

There are many courses available today, which make Spanish learning a fun experience. There are special websites which have easy, interactive lessons in Spanish. There is a variety of Spanish Audio CDs and interactive CD-ROMs which have fun activities like games, quizzes, songs and jokes, and also a number of books. All these make Spanish learning an easy and enjoyable experience.

Even if you are not fluent in this language, it is not at all difficult to teach it to your kids. You can make Spanish learning interactive and bonding if you learn it along with your children. It will boost up the child’s self esteem, since he will pick up the language faster than you, and later help you learn.

Three Reasons Why You Should Learn Spanish

June 8th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Language

Over the past 30 years, the number of Spanish-speaking residents in the US has grown exponentially. In fact, it’s now estimated that 35 million residents of this country speak Spanish. That’s nearly ten percent of the country, by my count.

These 35 million people are but a fraction of the 350 million people globally who speak Spanish. With that many people speaking the same language, there are quite a few opportunities for those people who speak Spanish that don’t exist for those people who don’t speak it. There are three significant reasons that I can think of why you should think about learning Spanish, if you’re thinking about learning a new language:

1) A whole new world is open to you. Spanish is estimated to be the 4th most commonly spoken language in the world, behind Mandarin, English, and Hindi, and is the primary language spoken in Mexico, Central America, and much of South America and the Caribbean. Spanish is also spoken, of course, in Spain, but don’t forget that the Spanish spoken there – Castillian Spanish – is not the same Spanish that is spoken in the western hemisphere!

Knowing Spanish will offer you experiences that you’re less likely to have on a trip to any of these destinations if you only speak English. Your English is going to be OK in large cities and resort towns, but once you leave those areas and venture further into the country, the ability to speak Spanish will be vital.

2) The job market is tough, and knowing Spanish might help. The current economy has led to a lot of people being unemployed and a lot of people finding new skills to compete for what jobs are out there. In a time when double-digit unemployment and few jobs are the norm, certain skills are often the difference in choosing between highly qualified employees applying for the same job.

As I noted before, there are 35 million people in the US who speak Spanish, and this number is increasing every day. As this population rises, the demand for Spanish speakers in many fields – such as nursing, teaching, or sales – becomes greater, especially in places where there is already a high Spanish speaking population. Knowing Spanish – even if you’re not completely fluent – can give you the competitive edge you need to get that job.

3) Learning Spanish can help with your English. It sounds funny, but it’s true! Spanish is what is known as a Romance language, derived from Latin. English is, itself, also partially derived from Latin, meaning that many of the grammar rules that apply to English apply to Spanish as well. As you learn Spanish, you’ll also find that your comprehension of English – from grammar rules to similar words derived from Latin – may also increase.

If you don’t think you’ll need to use Spanish for any of these reasons in the near future, perhaps you should consider learning Spanish now anyway. What may be the best reason to learn Spanish is that it’s pretty easy to learn, so you can be on your way to learning it and be proficient by the time you do need it.

The fact of the matter is that not all “learn this language now” courses are created equal. Indeed, most of them fall far short of their claims, and fail to deliver any lasting results. By the end of this article, hopefully you will be able to know the difference between a good package, and a lackluster one, and beyond that be able to pick out the right one for your needs.

1. Look Inside Yourself And Find What Works Best For You, And Be Aware Of Your Goals. It is very important to know yourself and what you want to do with your new language. How do you learn? Where do you learn best? What are your educational preferences and future plans?

2. Acknowledge That CD’s Can Help You Learn Spanish, If You Stick To It. It is said that the key to learning anything, and learning it well, is to go into it with the correct mindset. CD’s that help you learn Spanish sets can work, and they do work, however just like anything else in life, you get out of them what you put in. CD packages to help you learn Spanish may be good if you just want to learn a few phrases, but alone they won’t allow you to speak fluently. Used in combination with other resources however, they can be quite a useful tool.

3. Don’t Choose The Flavor Of The Week- Like Ice Cream There Are Many Varieties Of Spanish Learning CD. To find your favorite flavor of Spanish language learning software, you’ve just got to keep looking, and check out any samples that are available.
