In the trucking world there are good mechanics and bad mechanics. When searching for a new mechanic, take the approach that they are less than honest. When you take this perspective, you ensure that you won’t get taken for a ride. Some mechanics may make some unnecessary repairs but are less likely to do so if you have the right approach. The few bad mechanics can spoil it for the many honest ones. But don’t get caught off guard.

If you are driving a used truck, things are going to need repair and you will be visiting shops. The more miles your truck has on it, the more visits to a maintenance facility you are going to make. My best advice would be to build a relationship with your local dealer. If the dealer believes there is a chance you will come back, they are less likely to take you to the cleaners every time you show up. If they consider you an out of town guest you can really get taken for a ride.

When taking your truck in for repairs, the first step is to get a detailed estimate that includes details of the work to be completed, labor estimates and price estimates. After you have your estimate, it’s time to call your local dealer. Let the dealer know that you need repairs and have a detailed estimate. Ask if they are willing to match or even beat your estimate.

After you’ve finished your negotiating, make it perfectly clear that you do not expect any changes to the estimate. Get a firm commitment on price and let your mechanic know that the price is firm. It’s worth repeating that you are only paying the price quoted and not a cent more. Through repetition, the mechanic will know that additional costs are unacceptable. Let him know that you are only willing to pay the original price quoted.

We sell quite a few Volvo trucks at and run a fleet of almost exclusively Volvo 670s at Hoovestol Incorporated. The biggest worry that most people have is that for some of the things that go wrong with these trucks, you need to take them to a Volvo shop. I would say this has gotten better in recent years with a lot of the major fleets running Volvo trucks. However, it seems like a lot of these shops know that they are the only show in town and that you have no other alternatives. However, you can still use the techniques I described above to minimize the damage, and get back on the road for the lowest possible price. My hope is that using the experience I’ve had will help a little.

To the uninitiated, shipping from China looks like a complicated, disorganized process. There are political, legal and cultural factors that, in fact, do complicate matters, but when you select the right China-based partners you can rely on their expertise. What you need to know about shipping cargo from China involves government regulations in China and the destination country, as well as freight forwarding companies and various logistical matters. As in any other specialized operation, you should stick with your core activity and get the right people to help you navigate through the entire process.

It is easier to understand what is going on if you look at the individual steps involved. There are about 10-12 steps, depending on variables, involving about that same number of different parties. Briefly, the process works like this for a shipment out of South Mainland China to the U.S.:

- Factory advises that cargo is ready

-Customs broker in China will arrange clearance and inspection

-Based on factory license, Chinese customs allows export

-Trucking firm takes cargo to Hong Kong border

-Chinese customs clears export to Hong Kong

-Cargo delivered to port or airport

-Hong Kong export clearance allows booking with shipper

-Cargo arrives at destination

-U.S. customs is cleared

-Trucking firm takes cargo to destination

Through these steps you have dealt with factory managers, buyers, brokers, customs officials in three locations, trucking firms and shopping companies. The questions should immediately present themselves to you: How much of this do you want to manage? Who can help you the most?

Go with what you know

First-timers will rarely be able to organize and manager the entire process of sourcing from China, whether it’s one time only or a regular weekly thing. In fact, it is best that you and your firm focus on what you do best (buying, selling, marketing, service, manufacturing, whatever it is) rather than become a logistics company. Selecting a good international shipper may seem the best place to start, but shipping firms do not have the breadth of experience in most cases to help you cut through bureaucratic red tape, attend to the many legalities, work within the cultural milieu or resolve misunderstandings.

The answer is clear. An attorney that knows China, speaks the language, understands the culture and is experienced in international shipping is the way to go. Not only will the attorney be able to ensure all your dealings are correctly managed, he or she will handle the myriad different details and allow you to concentrate on your central business activities. Because you now have the support of someone with expertise in Chinese business and logistics, you will enjoy the benefits of the attorney’s many contacts and get the best, most cost-effective deals. Your lawyer, a China expert, will be the most important piece of this puzzle, the central hub coordinating the many different activities that can become dizzyingly complex at times.

Large-scale networking

You can think of this as a networking process. Rather than making multiple, often overlapping connections to 10-12 different parties (from freight forwarders and local trucking firms to customs officials in various countries), creating something of a tangled web if you are not careful, you make one connection to a lawyer experienced in shipping from China. The lawyer’s connections then become available to you for the solution of your particular challenge, whether it’s a single shipment or a regular schedule of shipments. The time you save through this top-down networking is substantial and, therefore, valuable, offsetting the cost of the attorney and creating a cost-effective solution.

There is simply no substitute for real-world experience when it comes to shipping from China. No matter how many how-to books you’ve read on the subject, and regardless of how all the Chinese regulations explain the process, there is always a difference (sometimes major) between the way things are written and the way things actually operate. You need an attorney with direct experience in China to help guide you through the process and, in fact, protect your interests. It is the single best decision you can make if you are involved, or will become involved, in shipping cargo from China.

By working with an attorney who knows China, its people, its laws and its customs, you will save yourself time, money and aggravation. Stay focused on your core operations, while getting expert assistance in the specialized areas, and your cargo will be delivered on time, every time.

The success of any business depends in large part on how many people can be reached and how successfully products are delivered to these customers. Being able to deliver products speedily and without hassle is critical to keeping your clients happy.

Unfortunately, transportation needs weren’t always met so easily. We have come a long way from the Pony Express, trains and other unpredictable forms of transportation. In today’s technological and fast paced world, its critical that transportation and logistics services keep up with the growing demand for instantaneous business processes. Such business models can be accomplished with an effective and reliable transportation and logistics company.

So what exactly are the benefits of using such services? Well, one large benefit is that you, as a business owner, will have fewer things to worry about so that you can focus on other areas of your business. By relying on a trusted logistics and transportation company, you can lighten your workload and find peace of mind. You can sit back and focus on ways to expand and make your business a huge success.

A transportation and logistics company partnership can help you management shipments regardless of their size or how far away your clients are. You can quickly and easily track and ship goods from one area to another and always keep track of their point of origin and destination. This makes sure that your cargo is always in capable hands. Everything is also insured so you have no worries.

Finally a company that is willing to provide wide and flexible distribution services will give you a much better way to reach additional customers and improve the flow of your goods to various areas. How does this help your business? By providing products faster to the market, you will get paid more quickly and in greater amounts. This is why a logistics and transportation team is crucial to the success of your business. Take time and pick an experienced company for your transportation, warehouse and other logistical needs.

For a wide range of carriers to meet your delivery needs, check out GlobalTranz. We are a trusted transportation and logistics company you can count on every time!

Sure, any box can be a moving box, but are your boxes reliable? Believe it or not, having the right kind of box is going to be the difference between a smooth move and a hectic one. Not having the right box can result in boxes giving out and breaking your belongings. Not having the right box can also mean that you’re not packing everything you could inside of one box. That can actually increase your moving costs if you’re using a moving service that charges by the hour, by the day, or by the truckload. More boxes mean more time and more space, so you want to make sure you plan this out right.

The supermarket box

Many individuals call their local supermarket and ask them if they can put boxes aside for them because they are moving. What happens is the mover finds that there are more little boxes than big boxes when they pick them up. Another thing to consider is the fact that all of these boxes have been used to ship items before and have now been broken down. This means you have to tape them back together over top of the old tape that was cut through when the employees were breaking them down. This can actually interfere with how well the bottom of the box comes together when you are taping it back together.

Supermarket boxes also consist of cardboard durability that can vary. It can be somewhat hard to determine how much weight a box can actually hold and, with all of the small boxes, you’re risking having to make more trips while you move.

The moving box

Moving supply stores sell moving boxes that are meant just for moving. They are durable so that your belongings are protected and they come in the sizes you need. You do have the option to choose from new boxes or used moving boxes. Used boxes are going to be cheaper, of course. However, you have to ask yourself if you want boxes someone else has used before. If you don’t have a problem with that, then you can go for the used box.

Here are three things you want to look for in a moving box:

The size: You may need different sizes for different things. If you have fragile items, you don’t want to stack too many of them on top of each other. However, books and other unbreakable items can be stacked until a comfortable weight is reached within the box.

Weight: It is important that you evaluate the weight that the box is capable of holding. This is something a supermarket box won’t tell you. You are safer knowing the weight because you then know how much you can put inside the box.

Type: There are different types of boxes such as dish boxes and wardrobe boxes. These boxes are specially designed to better protect your belongings. By moving items in boxes that are especially made for those items, you are reducing the chances of damage.

What to do?

It is up to you as to what boxes you want to use, but know that the moving box is going to give you the security you need when looking for moving boxes and moving supplies. Sometimes it’s not worth taking the risk and hoping that a box won’t break. Sometimes hoping that a box that is destined to break won’t break isn’t going to do much good. But having a box that is designed for what you’re using it for and even comes with usage instructions to ensure the utmost safety of your items is worth the cost.

EcoBox is a moving box, shipping and packing supply store that includes used and recycled moving boxes. Our excellent customer service aims to provide your moving and shipping needs while helping to save the environment through recycling.

Poly mailers are a good investment for business, or even for home use if you have a lot of things that you need to mail out that you must absolutely make sure will not be opened in transit. These types of mailers a very unique because the material they are made out of, polyethylene, is extremely durable and is virtually tear resistant. This makes it perfect for any sensitive documents are items you want to have mailed.

More pieces of mail get lost in transit than most people know, and while it may not have happened to you yet it is still a very real possibility. Hundreds of things could happen to your mail while it is being sent — anything from it getting lost, tossed around, or even illegally opened by mail carriers. These possibilities are very real and need to be kept in mind if you are intending to send out sensitive documents.

You can generally find poly mailers in a wide variety of sizes. They make them in sizes that can fit standard documents all the way up to full clothing items. This makes them popular during the holiday season because people like to mail the gifts that they buy out the recipients in these types of mailers. While they are popular in the home during holiday seasons or birthdays, they are especially popular for businesses because they are so secure.

It is easy to find these special mailers at any retailer that carries shipping or mailing supplies, though they are markedly more expensive than your standard paper envelopes. The higher price is worth it if you are worried about your items getting lost or stolen in the mail, but if you are looking to save some cash on them you can also purchase in bulk. Wholesale vendors that specialize in office and shipping supplies will often have them at extremely low prices if you purchase packs of at least 200, depending on the company.

If you are looking for these for home use, then you likely do not need 200 or 1000 of them. It’s probably best for you to go to a local mail supply store and see what they have. It may be more expensive to do so, but there is no point buying excessive amounts of envelopes when you know you will not use them.

Poly mailers are a solid investment for business use, and they certainly have their personal uses as well. Though more expensive than what is normally used for papers and documents, they give a extra sense of security when you need it most.

There are not many types of types of envelopes and envelopes as secure as poly mailing envelopes. While shipping in boxes is fine for extra large items, these types of envelopes do the job just as well for things that are not fragile.

Moving from one place to another is quite a task. Packing, driving, and then unpacking makes everyone tired. Having all your belongings make it safely to your new home is important. So, when you are pack everything up you want to make sure you bubbled wrapped the small breakables and covered the larger ones with moving blankets. Then pack everything tightly in the truck so nothing slides around.

The biggest furniture can’t exactly be packed in boxes or bubble wrapped like delicate glass pieces. Even though they still require a measure of protection during the stresses placed on them by moving. Thus, moving blankets become an important packing material.

While moving blankets can be used for a variety of things and come in handy when you’re packing, they are particularly important for your larger pieces of furniture.

Trucks are packed as full as possible, so you can fit everything into one. Obviously you want to pack it tight so nothing slides around, but this can cause scratching and damage to the furniture. This is just one of the things moving blankets can protect.

Moving trucks vibrate as they travel down the road. While this can’t be avoided, the vibration can cause unforeseen damage. The legs of furniture can be extremely fragile and the constant shaking can led to breakage. A blanket absorbs part of the vibration, lessening the stress on the legs of furniture.

Moving blankets can also help cushion major shifts and protect your furniture from major damage. Even if you are a cautious driver and slow down in construction zones, you cannot avoid all potholes and last second swerving, which shift all your belongings packed in the back.

Aside from protecting wood finishes from dings and scratches, a moving blanket can help protect fragile pieces of glass that some wood furniture contains. Wrapping the large pieces of glass can help prevent them from being broken while in the moving process.

It is not just wood and glass furniture that blankets protect. In part, they are also a prevention. They can prevent things like exercise equipment from doing major damage to other items if they shift during the moving process.

As a general rule it is better to use too many moving blankets and ere on the side of caution, than to give minimal protection to your furniture. It is much more cost efficient to protect the things you have than replace them, especially if you decide they are important enough to take with you on your move. Keep your furniture safe and protected by using moving blankets next time you pack to move.

From taxis to passenger trains and from commercial trucks, warehouses, barges and logistical services, the transportation industry is collectively one of the largest in the world. In 2009 alone, the United States transportation industry was estimated to have generated approximately $1.6 trillion in total revenue. This alone accounted for more than 10 percent of the entire American economy. By moving much needed products around the country and the globe, the transportation industry has been instrumental in helping grow economies worldwide.

More recently, the transportation industry has seen a few changes and trends. Despite growing global economic turmoil, the transportation remains to be a cornerstone of growth. As such, 2010 will prove to be a very telling year for the upcoming future of the industry. Some trends will prove to be threatening while others show extreme promise.

Many factors have threatened the overall growth of the global transportation industry. The industry has seen its own fair share of decline due to the recent global economic crisis and the threat of rising fuel costs. However, there are many indications that 2010 will be an improvement for the transportation world. For example, FedEx recently reported a 7 percent increase in revenue during last quarter stemming from strong growth in Asia. International growth for the United Parcel Service has likewise caused an increase in revenue.

In 2010, the demand for more fuel efficient and eco-friendly operations will increase. Advances in technology will help streamline operations. These advances will help the environment as well as help save in costs. The public push for greater use of public transportation and fuel alternatives could mean bright things for the transportation industry.

As governments continue to issue economic stimulus dollars, the transportation industry will likely see a push. These dollars are being used worldwide to help build transportation infrastructure. The February 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will mean $1.1 billion for airport grants, $8.4 billion in public transportation projects and allotted $27.5 billion for infrastructure fixes to American highways. China has also planned on revamping their infrastructure of highways, railways and airports with a $585 billion package.

If you’re thinking about moving it’s important to protect your personal belongs as best you can. One of the best ways protect your larger items is to secure them with moving blankets. Blankets for moving usually come in two different forms quilted and non-quilted. Quilted blanket are ideal because they provide the most protection.

Although quilted blankets are ideal the amount of filler place in the blanket is what will determine how much protection you actually receive from the blanket. The filler usually consist of recycled cotton while the outside of the blanket is mostly made from polyester or felt.

Wrapping items in moving blankets properly can prevent damage and scratches from bumps and shifts during the move. However, if you plan to move furniture into storage you may want the added protection from the blankets there as well.

One of the great things about moving blankets is the versatility they can offer. After your move these blankets make excellent bedding for pets, work as cushions in your child’s playroom, or can be used to sound proof rooms.

Moving blankets can be purchased or rented from any local moving companies. They usually have a few options to choose from which can help you decide if you want to rent them for one time use, or if you want to purchase them, so you can also benefit from them in the future.

The cost to rent a moving blanket or purchase a moving blanket can sometimes be so close that it makes sense to just purchase the blanket, so you can use is whenever you want in the future. You can choose blankets the range anywhere from $15 to $100.

Most of the blankets you have in your home currently are made to supply warmth and look good in your home. These blankets cannot supply the same protection moving blankets do. Moving blankets are not a waste of money, if you want to protect your belongings.

It is worth noting that sometimes blankets can get damaged during the move. One move can ruin the blanket for forever, which would then need to be replaced. When deciding on which moving blankets to use and whether you want to buy them making smart decisions can help you in the long run.

If you want to find the best moving blankets , then visit Shippers Supplies and choose the most durable moving blankets available.

The concept of retail has at its basis the presentation of goods or services to a consumer base in the effort to entice the customers to make a purchase. In all the time that capitalism has been in effect, despite its many forms and regulations this basic tenet has not changed. What has made a significant change is the cost related to this shipping of products to retail facilities.

Adjusting the costs for inflation, a gallon of gasoline in 1970 would cost approximately $1.60 compared to its current price of over twice that. But more important than the outright cost of fuel is the inconsistency and inability to control that cost. Unlike most products that adhere to a supply and demand interaction with regard to price, fuel is unique in the introduction of international politics to the equation. In the early 1970s the so called oil crisis was not the result of inadequate supply, but a conscious decision by members of OPEC to reduce production and delivery to the US as punishment for American support to Israel.

But it is not just the cost of petroleum that has made it more expensive to move product from place to place. The cost of packaging, much of it made from petroleum has also increased. We can seen the increase in our supermarkets, the cost of paper bags had always been more than for plastic bags, but that is no longer the case.

From the beginning of the nation the notion of delivering packages and mail was an especially important process. The postal service was a mammoth enterprise with a truly nation building impact. Benjamin Franklin became our first postmaster general in 1775, earlier than the signing of the declaration of independence. Unfortunately, mail delivery was not equally available to all Americans.

As things develop, the easiest methods were harnessed first, so people who lived in the cities began receiving official free mail service in 1863. It would be three decades before an organization representing the interests of the farming community could coerce congress into officially launching rural free delivery. But even this new service did not reach all Americans, the west was largely without service.

The quest to provide truly equal delivery of the mail to every part of the US continued as Congress designated first the waterways, then the railways official postal service. The effort was dynamic but disproportionate. Even for the areas East of St Joseph Missouri which marked the end of the early phases of the railway cities received free mail delivery, but farm areas did not. It took the effort of the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry a farming advocacy group started in 1867 and 33 years to get the service started.

Rural free delivery, the meaning behind the letters in the TV show Mayberry R. F. D. Came to be synonymous for living in a distant isolated area. The notion of making postal delivery available to all was a grand one, but the cost of providing it would eventually catch up to the young nation who had to initiate postage stamps and compulsory prepayment to keep it.

None of these expenses related to getting the product to market is a surprise, except for the increasing percentage cost of shipping to the overall expense of being in business at all. It is important for new business owners to be sure their product has an eager and active market for their product before they invest too much in expansion. If they are not careful, the cost of delivering the goods can exceed the cost of the product itself.

Looking for an excellent Cross border shipping/courier delivery service? As Canada’s largest courier company, they offer overnight shipping, air freight, and other services to ensure your shipments get where they need to be quickly.

Saving the world is a very overwhelming task to be charged with. Yet, every one of us has that very task resting on our shoulders. The well-being of the environment is a reoccurring subject on the evening news. This is something that requires the cooperation and action of every individual. Many do not know where to start, but recycling boxes seems like a good choice.

People need to be educated about the ways that they can personally help with global efforts. For that there have been public service ads running for years on end. However, for some people even what these ads propose is still overwhelming. For these people it is wisest to start small with just one type of recyclable material.

Have you ever stopped to think about just how prevalent boxes are in our world. Our food comes packaged in them. Kids toys are packed in them. Most things we buy come packaged in them. Ever notice how quickly they can take of space in your garbage bin? Think about how fast they add up in a landfill.

Once it is recycled what happens next? It gets turned into other stuff, of course! It can easily end up back on the supermarket shelf, right where you found it the first time. It can be turned into a paper grocery sac. It could also be used for heavy duty cardboard needs. Think in terms of how it could be used in industrial factory packing supplies. This greatly reduces the amount that is needed to come from raw materials.

It can end up being recycled over and over again. Long have people lamented about the number of trees it takes to put out the Sunday edition of the newspaper, but that does not have to be that way. If it is printed on recycled paper then it is in fact not harming any trees at all. By making sure that the paper makes it back to the recycling bin when it is done that you have ensured that the box it originally came from can continue to live on.

After you get the hang of making sure that the boxes go into the appropriate bin, you might think about taking on another challenge. What about pop bottles? That does not mean all plastic products, just the bottles. These take a very long time to break down in landfills, so any way to reduce their numbers is a good thing. Any time you can just toss those into your recycle bin as well.

As the bottles are recycled and make their way back to store shelves, they sometimes take on a completely different form than before. Sure, they can be turned right back into plastic containers again, but that is not all. You might buy a shirt and find that it has been made from recycled plastic. These really have very few limits as to what they can end up being.

Perhaps you do not like the idea of needing to be a super hero to save the world. You do not need to be one, just an average person reducing the burden on the earth to provide raw materials. It just needs to start with recycling boxes, and then expand from that point to other things.

Need moving boxes? Our company buys and sells new and used moving boxes as well as shipping and recycled boxes. Check our new San Antonio store opening in 18130 US Hwy 281 North #100, San Antonio, TX 78232 (210) 267-1614‎
