Make Money Writing: Easy Ways To Start Today

July 25th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Writing

Want to make money at home? Try writing for magazines. It’s not difficult and it can be quite lucrative. Keep reading for a rundown of how to do it.

When I stared my own writing career, decades ago now, I wrote for magazines. I could write query letters and plot out ideas in my lunch hour at work, and could write the articles late at night, after everyone else had gone to bed. Here’s how you can do this too.

1. Determine what you know about and what interests you. Are you employed in real estate? Do you enjoy sports? Do you grow heirloom tomatoes? Would you like to know more about how to sell homes? Choose a topic for which to write a short two-page article (about 1,000 words or so).

2. Find publications which are interested in your subject. For example, for an article on the best new products for Siamese cats, look online and at the pet store for magazines devoted to cats. Which ones would be most likely to use such an article? Study the publications and get their writers’ guidelines. Follow those instructions to the letter, including sending a query letter, if specified.

3. Study the publication and write your article using the same writing style. For example, pretend you are telling your best friend how to improve his or her golf swing, explaining everything as clearly and simply as you can. Be sure to follow the writers’ instructions, too.

4. Leave your work overnight, then come back to it and check it. Correct all typos, missed information etc. Read it again: Does it fit the publication’s style? Ask your spouse or a trusted friend to read it and get their honest opinion. Keep revising it so that it is as well written as possible.

5. Following the writers’ guidelines, submit the article, accompanied by a letter explaining what the article is about and why you chose that magazine.

6. Do it again. Many articles get rejected on the first try. Be patient with yourself. Consider any remarks you receive and make changes accordingly. Try sending it to another magazine or website.

It is possible to make money writing about what you know. Why not get started today?

Writing Articles: Write For Money And Succeed

July 19th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Ezines and Newsletters

Writing for money used to be an impossible dream for many. Today, however, you’d be amazed how quickly you can generate a lot of money by writing articles.

My writing career started many years ago, in the 1970s. Today, it’s easier than it’s ever been for anyone to make money writing. Just by writing simple Web articles, you can develop a six-figure income. Follow these simple steps.

1. Ask yourself what the article is for. Do you want to persuade someone to buy something? Do you want to show them how to do something? Do you have some important information to convey? Do you just want to share an amusing anecdote?

2. Determine who your audience is. In general, does the reader know something about what you’re talking about or is he or she a complete beginner? How old would your typical reader be? Male or female? What is his or her education level? You can write better by understanding where your reader is coming from.

3. Jot down an outline of your article. Don’t worry, it’s easy: All you need is a headline, an opening paragraph, three to four paragraphs explaining the opening paragraph and a closing paragraph. That’s it.

4. Always have keywords in mind as you write. Search engines use keywords to determine what your article is about, so they are vitally important. If you forget to use the appropriate keywords, your articles won’t be read.

5. Use short sentences and easy-to-understand words when you write your article. If it sounds like you are speaking to someone, the article is probably just right. Follow your outline if you get stuck.

6. If possible, set the article aside for at least a few hours while you go on to other things, then read it. Ask yourself if you’ve covered all the information.

7. Read the article again to make sure you’ve spelled everything correctly and fix any typos.

8. Give the article to someone else to proofread it. You’d be amazed at how many errors writers miss in their own work.

9. Make sure you submit your articles exactly the way your client wants. Some prefer TXT format while other prefer something else. Always aim to give your client what he or she wants.

This is an easy and quick way to write articles. Once you’ve mastered it, your article writing service will generate a surprising amount of cash.

Freelance Writing: You Can Make Money As A Writer

July 16th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Writing

Freelance writing allows you to be your own boss, without the hassle of running a brick-and-mortar business. You can call all the shots: your rates and your hours. Let’s look at some ways you can take advantage of the freelance life.

Over three decades, I’ve written everything from books to classified ads for many, many clients. It won’t take long before you have a steady stream of clients too. Some of them will stay with you for years: you can rely on them to send you projects, so that your income becomes stable.

Possibly the easiest way to get started is to write for an online article bank. Write a short article about something that interests you and submit it to the bank of your choice, along with a bio box that tells the world about your writing skills and interests. When the article gets used on a website, people will learn what you have to offer and hire you to write their content. Some article banks will also pay you a small amount whenever your article is used.

Even if you don’t think you have any expertise, you should write for an article bank. There are usually a lot of topics that are in high demand at a particular time. Write on one of those subjects and use the list to write about similar topics. People will soon see that you are an expert in that field and will be willing to pay you for your knowledge.

Another fun way to get started as a freelancer is to start a blog. Again, you can write about whatever you like. Most people think about blogs as mere online diaries; however you can also earn money from blogs, especially by promoting other people’s products. A single blog post is only about 200 words (less than half a page) so you can make a lot of money by creating many blogs on many different subjects.

Once you have your own blogs established, you will easily be able to convince companies to let you create blogs for them on a variety of subjects.

Beginning writers will find it easy to get started with articles and blogs. After they’ve been published, it’s an easy matter to find clients for their writing services. You can show them that your articles and blogs will make them money, thereby saving key personnel for other duties. The company’s improved profits will convince them to pay you well.

If you’ve dreamed of being your own boss, freelance writing is the way to go. Escape the rat race, be your own boss, and start writing today.

Freelance Writing: How To Get Your Big Break

July 9th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Writing

Considering taking up freelance writing? Do it. You have an amazing array of options open to you: there’s more than enough work for everyone. If you’re a new writer, start with confidence. If you’re writing in your day job, you’ll soon realize you can make more money as a freelancer.

Since you’re reading this, you already have everything you need to get started. Within a few hours, you can have your first payment on its way to you. Yes, I said within hours, if you know where and how to look.

I’ve been writing for over 30 years. I wish that I were just starting out today, or that I could clone myself, because there’s just so much available.

In this article, let’s discuss two opportunities which are hot right now. The first one I’m sure most writers never consider, and the second one most writers either overlook, or never approach in the best and most effective manner.

1. Go and find your copy of the Yellow Pages. It’s a goldmine for writers. Many businesses hire writers, usually through agencies. However, they’re very amenable to working with writers directly, because it’s easier. Are you aware that business writing jobs pay more than magazine writing jobs?

Large local businesses look for writers for many communications tasks. These include: writing web content, writing advertising material of many different kinds, and writing manuals.

2. The outsourcing marketplaces are happy hunting grounds for writers. When you approach these sites in the right way, you’ll get more jobs than you can handle. Several of my writing students rely almost solely on these sites, and they making double what they made in their day jobs.

The major benefit of these sites is that you can get as many writing jobs as you want. Be patient. Take the time to learn how these sites work: it’s a big investment in your future.

Want a suggestion? When you’re bidding on project, ensure that your proposal includes everything you’ll do if you win. The buyers care about their projects — they’re not interested in your writing experience.

So there you go. Two options which will help you to get your big break in freelance writing. What are you waiting for?

July 6th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Writing

Want to make money writing? The Web is built on words. This means that it’s much easier than it’s ever been for a beginner to set up a full-blown and profitable freelance writing career.

When I say the process I’ll share with you is easy, I mean it. Please don’t get hung up on your lack of experience. You can get experience fast: all you need to do is follow the process.

My own freelance writing career stretches across three decades. I wish I were starting out today; it used to be frustrating and exhausting to write for years with nothing to show for it.

You’re lucky. You have endless opportunities. All you need to do is get started, and you’ll start to sell your services very quickly.

Let’s look at the process.

1. Start a blog and write about your interests, whatever they may be. To make money freelancing, you need to be able to write at will. A blog focuses your mind, and gets you started writing for others.

Get into the habit of reading blogs which interest you. With millions of blogs online, most bloggers are just like you: they’re learning to write by doing.

2. Your next step is to become part of the huge community of bloggers. Interact. Comment on others’ blog posts. Write sincere and helpful comments, not junk comments like: “enjoyed your blog.”

Choose several blogs on which to leave comments over a couple of weeks. This gets you known on these blogs. Contact the bloggers, and ask to guest on their blogs. (You write a guest post.)

3. Blogging, commenting and guest-blogging builds your confidence, and gets you used to writing. Now’s the time to offer your blogging services for a pittance. Advertise on your blog — you’ll get takers.

I know these initial writing jobs are for tiny pay, but be aware that you’re making much more than money. You’re learning how to sell your words, and you’re also getting a reputation. People talk to others, and before you know it, you’ll have more clients, and will be charging more.

Try the simple and easy steps above. They work. Before you know it, you’ll be a skilled freelance writer with a big and grateful client list.

Now’s the time to build a great freelance writing career. Get the writing tips you need at Angela Booth’s writing blog. You’ll love Angela’s training courses and writing classes too — they take you from beginner to pro, fast.

Web Writing Tricks: Blogging Success Secrets

July 6th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Blogging

If you’re writing for the Web, you know that blogging is hot. Since blogs draw visitors, and you can monetize them, it’s essential that you learn to use blogging to achieve your money-making and other goals online.

I’ve been blogging for a decade, both for myself, and for my clients. Although blogging is straightforward, I’ve learned from my students that it’s easy to get confused when you’re inexperienced. Until I nudge them gently onto the right path, my students get caught up in the minutiae of creating a blog, and six months later still haven’t made any money.

Here are the two basic strategies you must keep in mind to turn each blog you create into an income stream.

1. Create a blog for a single result. As the Web grows, relevance becomes ever more important in getting traffic. Know what results you want from your blog — this means that you must decide what you want your readers to do. Confused readers click away instantly.

Decide what you want your traffic to do. Want to send them to an affiliate offering? Focus on that. Your keywords and links should be directly relevant. If you want your site’s visitors to do something else — perhaps sign up for an email list — create a new blog.

2. Pitch and promote your blog. The more you advertise and promote, the more traffic you’ll get. It’s essential to use as many different forms of promotion as you can.

People trust their friends’ recommendations. Do you have social media accounts at sites like Twitter? Find out where your customers hang out, and interact with them, linking to your blog in the process. This is free.

Pay Per Click is also effective in kick-starting traffic to a new blog.

Remember to develop a linking strategy for promotion. If you focus a little energy on link-building, these links will send an ever-increasing flow of traffic to you over the months and years ahead.

If you’re in a less competitive area, you won’t need many links to get to the top of the search engine results pages.

If you keep these two Web writing strategies in mind: one blog/ one idea, and promoting your blog, you’ll make money.

Write Better Book Reviews And Get Compensated

June 11th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Internet And Business Online

It used to be only an elite few could write published book reviews. The Internet has changed the landscape. Now anyone can review books. Shoppers appreciate having a variety of perspectives on a book before they buy, which means opportunity for more writers and reviewers on the Internet. It also means an opportunity for aspiring book reviewers to make money doing what they love. To make your endeavors pay, here are a few tips for how to write a general book review people will read on the Internet. Seasoned book reviewers know there is no single way to write a review, but some guidelines make all the difference. Whether you are reviewing a biography, a romance, classic literature or a self-help book, some simple rules apply.

Consider some questions before you read a particular book, which will help you formulate your conclusions. What kind of audience are you writing for? What does the book title suggest to a reader? Does it set the reader up with certain expectations? What clues are there in the introduction or preface, which can help guide your overall view of the book? You might find some inconsistencies between the introduction and the actual book. Does the book fulfill its mission? Pay attention to the Table of Contents, like a map, for helping you explicate the book.

Ask yourself some questions while reading the book. Consider if the book fits a particular genre or if it is hard to classify. What is the point of view or are there any points of views? Is the style informal or formal? What concepts are implied or stated clearly? What things are not stated in the text? How accurate are the details in the book and does it matter? Perhaps you want to compare the book to others like it.

When writing, remember people on the Internet have short attention spans. Use an effective opening sentence. You can summarize the plot, but you don’t have to. You do not necessarily have to state whether you recommend the book or not. Try to address the book and not what you wish the book had been. Maybe you disdain the book, but perhaps certain people will find it useful or important. End with a summary, wrapping up your review, without complicating with new material.

If you love reading books and writing book reviews, you can make more money at it the more you continue to refine your craft. Keep researching tips and advice for the art of writing book reviews, and the more you improve, the more money you are likely to make.
