A List Of The Most Delicious Lattes In The Big Apple

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Coffee

Just a few years ago, New York City was better known for the coffee at cheap diners or bakeries than at specialty coffee shops. But alas, amongst the midst of a major recession while Starbucks was closing locations left and right, boutique coffee shops with expert baristas started popping up all over town. This trend is continuing to hold strong, with new places opening up quite often.

The following are some of the best places to get a cup of coffee in New York City right now.

Abraco is my favorite cup of coffee in all of Manhattan without a doubt. The owner at this place is hilarious and clearly constantly pepped up from the power and smoothness of this cup of joe. The olive oil loaf here is also legendary.

One of my favorites is La Colombe Torrefaction. This coffee shop is originally based out of Philly, and I am glad they decided to expand. There are few iced coffees I would rather have than this one on a hot summer day.

Located on the border of the Lower East Side and East Village is Bluebird Coffee Shop. Just less than a year ago, this place was home to the short lived Simon Sips, which just did not have the magic that Bluebird has. If you are traveling to New York anytime soon and happen to find yourself touring the Lower East Side, make a stop at Bluebird.

A coffee shop that has been getting a ton of great press recently is the new establishment Blue Bottle Coffee in Brooklyn. This place is an offshoot of the San Francisco chain, and we are glad they decided to come over to the East coast. This place is fantastic.

On the Lower East Side is the Cobble Hill spinoff of Caf Pedlar. This place has amazing food and is a great place to get some a decent amount of work done while sipping on some Stumptown Coffee.

As it stands, this is my list of the best of the best. But with so many to choose from these days, one wonders what other great places we will see over the next few years.

Besides coffee, this writer also regularly gives advice regarding rear speaker stands and the plasma TV floor stand.

The Vinyl Tablecloth Is Great For Homes

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Arts and Crafts

A simple addition like a vinyl tablecloth can go a very long way in enhancing your overall dining experience. There are many reasons that you may want to use one, and I’m going to list a few of the benefits in this article.

Most tablecloths require a lot of work when it comes to cleaning them. There are complicated washing instructions, and some can only be dry cleaned. They can also be easily stained with a spill. Vinyl tablecloths, on the other hand, are very easy to maintain.

In addition to the ease that comes with washing my vinyl tablecloths, I really like the way they protect my table surface. These are very resistant to spills and stains.

No longer will you need to worry about using coasters for drinks, and any household with kids will do really well with these.

I don’t even need to worry about using coasters for glasses of wine and other drinks.

Due to the nature of vinyl, it’s really easy to brush any liquid or food spills off the tablecloth. Not only is it easy to brush these things off, but they’ll rarely stain once they’ve been removed. This is the very reason that many busy restaurants choose to use vinyl coverings for their tables.

A fitted vinyl tablecloth is even more valuable in the presence of a home with kids. As you know, children may frequently tug on the surface of the table, worse yet spilling all of the food and drink that sits atop it. By getting a fitted one, this won’t be any kind of a worry.

The best thing about the vinyl tablecloth is the price. Some of them cost $10 and less, and with a wide range of designs I can just about guarantee that you’ll find something you like. Accordingly, you can see the benefits of using vinyl in your kitchen. It’s very reasonably priced, they’re easy to maintain, and they’re in abundance in terms of styles.

Experiment Hazelnut Coffee

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Coffee

Coffee is nature’s gift to mankind and it is amazing how many varieties of beans the world can produce from one region to the next. It has been found that each flavor in a coffee bean from one region differs with that from the other, and this accounts for the great variety that continues to be discovered by agriculturalists.

Apart from the many rich coffee bean varieties that make this great beverage the number one in the world, people have still maintained the need to experiment with adding very many other flavors to it. Hazelnut for example is great with coffee and has become very popular with all hazelnut lovers in the world.

Apart from hazelnut, many other flavors and spices have also been used to improve on the quality and blends of coffee. Many have used cinnamon but the one that is most popular with travelers all over is the spice and nut liquor coffee.

Other stuff like creme, chocolate, spice and nuts even liquor have all been used to enhance the flavors of coffee but the main center of interest has always been the unique and strong aroma of authentic coffee.

Take the hazelnut coffee flavor for example, its nutty flavor when mixed with brewed coffee is so special and difficult to compare with anything else. You get to enjoy a wonderful buttery and sweet aroma.

Think of the rich, deep, very aromatic and creamy coffee. Yummy, but there is even a bigger difference noted when one compares the light and dark roast because the flavor is further enhanced.

Those who go for a pleasant, less overwhelming cup of brewed comfort would fall for this flavor. Another wonderful thing is that you can drink this coffee any time you feel like it.

Hazelnut coffee is actually an amazing discovery that is loved by most coffee drinkers all over the world. It is wonderful that the strong and original coffee aroma still cannot be muffled by adding all sorts of flavors. Go ahead and enjoy the first grade of coffee beans and hazelnut flavor; it is simply the best.

You Can Easily Make Amazing Meals Using Gluten Free Recipes

August 4th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Recipes

Many people are intolerant to gluten. This protein is found in certain oats, wheat, rye, and barley. It can be difficult to digest and therefore irritates the digestive tract as well as other organs. Here is a tasty three-course meal to cater for four people – a starter, a main, and a dessert, all of which are gluten free recipes.

Corn and Chicken Soup. Ingredients: One whole chicken (cut into portions with skin removed), a chopped onion, a peeled and sliced carrot, a chopped celery stalk, 6 black peppercorns, a bay leaf, an 8-ounce can of creamed corn, salt and pepper, and a quart of water.

Put ingredients into a big wok or saucepan and boil on medium heat. Simmer for 30 minutes. Take the chicken out. Put the stock through a strainer and then pour it back into the saucepan. Add the creamed corn. Stir while it comes to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. Break the chicken into strips and add to the mixture.

Chili Colorado (serves 4): 2 pounds of lean beef (cut into cubes), three tablespoons of rice flour, quarter cup of extra-virgin olive oil, one minced garlic clove, quarter cup of chili powder (or more), five cups of beef stock, one teaspoon of sea salt. Put the beef cubes into the rice flour and toss so that the meat is evenly coated.

Heat olive oil on medium heat in a big pan. Add the cubed beef and turn the heat to low. Stir while cooking until the beef cubes are brown and tender. Add the balance of the flour and the garlic and cook for 2 minutes, then add the chili powder.

Pour in the beef broth and add the sea salt. Let the mixture boil on a medium heat. When boiled, turn the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Cook for slightly longer if the beef is not properly cooked and the sauce has not thickened.

Cinnamon and Toffee Apples: You will need 4 apples (peeled, cored and sliced into thin wedges), 2 tablespoons white sugar, 2 tablespoons of butter, 4 tablespoons of extra thick cream, 1/2 cup of pecan nuts, ten pieces of caramel, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

Stir the butter, cinnamon and sugar in a large skillet until the sugar dissolves. Put the apples in a pan – stir and cook for 5 minutes until they color and soften, then add the caramel. Reduce heat and stir until the caramel has melted. Add the pecans and cream, stir and simmer for a minute or two. Cool slightly, then serve. That’s it – three lovely gluten free recipes.

So many food products have hidden wheat components in them. Texture will differ also because in some cases the flour has a grainier quality. gluten free recipes Trying out new foods means discovering new recipes. Also published at You Can Easily Make Amazing Meals Using Gluten Free Recipes.

The Benefits Of Ordering Online

August 3rd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Food and Drink

Once you get home from work, your day is nowhere close to complete. There are chores to do, pets to walk, neighbors and family members to placate. And on top of that, you all have to eat. The last item is the subject of much unnecessary stress and strain.

Not everyone aced home economics in their youth. And even then, many people have forgotten all but the basics of preparing a healthful meal for more than one. This is where turning to the professionals can be a quick and easy solution.

Ordering your food over the phone comes with a laundry list of liabilities. From misunderstood orders to missed addresses and even disorganized delivery-people, restauranteurs are far from perfect, as years of complaints from customers can attest to.

Rather than getting exactly what you ordered, you may find yourself on the receiving end of an inadequate and inexperienced work force. The practical result of this is a mistaken order; one that you have paid for.

Even if you trust yourself to communicate adequately, there is much to get in the way of interlocution. For one, you or the person taking the order may have a thick accent that can make understanding more difficult. Add to that the basic problems of telephony: An inadequate phone connection can make it hard to hear, and harder to order.

So, what’s the alternative? You could order in person, but that sort of defeats the purpose of ordering in the first place, that is, avoiding the added effort. Instead you could place your order online. This clears up any possible confusion, leaves a digital “paper trail,” and even allows you to place food orders well ahead of time.

One benefit of ordering online is that many restaurants and catering companies will give special discounts and other benefits to those who make use of their websites. Such benefits are rarely available to the phone-based customer.

Now, it is important to remember that just because you order your food over the internet, it doesn’t say anything about your own skills as a cook or as a homemaker. Running a modern household isn’t easy and we could all use a little help where we can get it.

On the contrary ever thought about what it’s all about? Does the idea of fair trade coffee really work in reality? How much of the price you pay for fair trade coffee truly goes to the farmers and workers?

What’s fair trade coffee?

Coffee beans are the 2nd biggest buying and selling commodity globally, after oil. According to The Fair Trade Foundation, a fair trade coffee would mean ideal value, far better working condition plus more steady local environment. That involves much better terms of trade with farmers and workforce in the developing world. Fundamentally it really is to defend their particular interests right from organizations carrying out normal buying and selling where the value might be below market price. In case you are mindful concerning purchasing fair trade coffee at a coffee bar as well as a supermarket have you after that thought about the amount of the money spent genuinely goes to the poor makers in developing countries? As outlined by NY Times article ‘Fair Prices for Farmers: Simple Idea, Complex Reality’, 2006, authorities state that still a lot of the funds goes to the hands of merchants and middlemen which also will involve nonprofit companies. However, there are mixed perception about it. Establishments that are engaged in fair trade goods state that money do reach the producers. They claim that this programme minimizes around five middlemen which favor the farmers who can obtain higher rates on their goods. This system saves the farmer to keep the same charge whether the industry price is low or higher for the purchaser. Still, a arranged cost in one nation may be really profitable for those farmers, but the same price in another country barely covers the expense of producing.

At times the farmer receives cheaper value regarding their goods than the Fair Trade programme require. This might come about when some other co-operatives are coping with the investing and they’ve their particular procedures for how much the farmer really should get.

For what reason should you spend extra for the fair trade coffee?

At the present time fair trade coffee along with products is still a niche market and the levels of competition in fair trade coffee continues to not as vast as conventional dealing, however the programme is definitely developing rapidly which naturally may lower the cost of fair trade coffee to the buyer. This system is fairly young and straightforward, but has to be modified to adjust to the complexity of worldwide investing. From what we have uncovered here the idea does work and it is in majority supporting farmers and workers in developing country to perform a healthy and safe business. It simply need enhancement to make it better yet for consumers and producers.

SmartNewborn Nutrition Tips

August 2nd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Babies Toddler

It is what we feed our children in infancy that determines how strong and healthy they grow. We shouldn’t even have to think about it, our kids and their health should be our main priority.

We all know that a mother’s milk is the best start for a baby, but they can’t be sustained on that only for very long. Once your baby is ready for solids, it’s so easy to make up healthy meals for your child without spending a fortune on ready made stuff.

A lot of parents can’t wait to wean their babies and introduce lots of different foods into their baby’s diet, but quite frankly this is just going to upset their delicate stomachs. Introduce things gradually, and start them off with a fruit that is mashed to a puree or paste. Choose fruit that is easy on the digestive system, such as pear or buttermilk squash.

As your baby grows and has tried plenty of fruit, their digestive system will be more receptive to other food. Try them with mashed carrot and potato, or a smooth broth. Cereals are also ideal as a next step food.

Always remember that mashes must be smooth and have nothing added. A thin porridge made from mashed banana is perfect; but don’t add any sugar.

Organic chicken broth is a perfect meal for your baby’s strengthening digestive system, just don’t give them the pieces of meat until they are much older and can cope with chewing properly.

When preparing broth and the like, avoid ‘windy’ veg such as onions and wait a while before adding pulses. Cauliflower and broccoli can also cause wind so leave those until later too.

Feeding your baby food that you have made yourself is very rewarding as you know what you are giving your baby and don’t have any chemicals added. They are getting fresh and healthy food, thanks to you.
